  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from laceknitter -- Powerfully written : Compelling reading. I found Eli Saslow's stories in the Washington Post to be the best descriptions out there of what it's like to live this pandemic, and here he tells us even more details of individuals whom I had come to care about through his words. My copy arrived and I eagerly sat right down with it, reading, remembering, learning more, my heart going out to the people again and again and grateful that they had been able to be heard, truly heard. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from D. Ball -- This book hit me right in the heart. It connected me with people this pandemic hit the hardest. : So many voices...more points of view than I could imagine. I first read the story of Francene Bailey on passing the coronavirus to her mother. I grieved deeply for Francene - it wasn't her fault. But she knew it must have happened on the night she finally left the quarantine of her bedroom to get a breath of air - and her mother came out to hug her. Then there were so many other people who got to tell how the pandemic affected their lives. I feel it is so important to hear each other - to listen to each other. We all were in this horrible time when our world was turned upside down. Thank you to all who shared their stories. Thank you to all who reached out to help others in their own corner of the world, whether it was in the walls of your own home, or to the stranger. This was a time for courage, caring and humanity. You all inspire me! ( Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Sweet Tooth -- Read now and save for historical record : Couldn’t put it down even though I had thought it might require more emotional energy than I had in reserve! The first-person accounts of medical professionals, survivors, grieving loved ones, isolated individuals, and even skeptics are riveting. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Don’t ever forget : An opportunity to read about the experiences of those most impacted by COVID. Many of these people are still dealing with the effects of this pandemic and it will be years before they are made whole. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from MamasGottaRead -- Emotional, raw, and cathartic... : Eli Saslow is unmatched when it comes to conveying human emotion. I was blown away with his work in 𝑅𝑖𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑂𝑢𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝐻𝑎𝑡𝑟𝑒𝑑, and his latest, 𝑽𝒐𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒄 is no exception. This masterpiece was all at once raw and empathetic, gut-wrenching and resilient. He shares the human experience like no other. I just couldn't put this book down. Each of the stories of personal experience throughout the pandemic were so compelling, especially because they're part of our shared journey. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2021 )

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- Outstanding! : The author is a Pulitzer Prize winner and it shows in this book. During Covid 19 he spoke to people all over the world from all walks of life and the conversations are in the book. It reminded me that we were all in this together even though the mismanagement of the pandemic threatened to tear us apart. Everyone suffered in one way or another. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- A Piece of History . : Being in the UK I had never heard of the author , but I spotted one of his stories about a family whose mother could not beat Long Covid .It was in the Washington Post and resonated with me because I had had a terrible time getting over Covid and I was so moved by this story I contacted Eli Saslow .I had no idea he was a Pulitzer Prize winner ,I just knew he must know this family and I wanted to help .Surprisingly down to earth , he contacted me and let me know about their fund raiser .Sadly , this mother died .Her story is heart wrenching ,as are many of them .In years to come - hopefully - the world will eradicate Covid , but this book will stand as testimony for all the families ,workers , medical staff and people from all walks of life whose lives were turned upside down by an unexpected and unseen killer .
